A very credible member over at CB cleared up the buzz about .18X. It is the latest internal at RIM, but is not out to partners for testing. Though, it is mentioned when the times comes for us to see .18X, it will be well worth the wait. All in all, DO NOT expect to see .18X April 1.

I also would like to know who, and i hope he is correct because there are several very credible people over there.
But not getting my hopes too high especially on APRIL FOOL'S DAY, and wouldnt it be nice if as the app store opened an os came out that combined the app memory with the device memory giving us at least the full gig......
If not there are going to alot of unhappy people purchasing apps that are going to do nothing but slow their phone down.

That is the point, perfectly...I (and so many others) have problems now with the lagginess of the device.
And although there are still a handful of Storm owners that have no complaints with running apps there will come a day very soon, that will change.

We absolutely need the allocation of memory opened up so we can use the phone to its full potential.

This is not like any other device. I would hate to see it go the way of the dinosaur so quickly when the same phone with more app memory available comes down the road later this year.

But maybe that is really the point...cripple the device enough that you don't notice it till you've had it for 6 months.

Then your choices are clear: Use the phone bare bones or spend another 200-500 bucks on the next one.

Which one do you think RIM hopes you choose?

I have to aggee with you, I think that may be the case. As much as I enjoy my storm, the memory allocation is hard to overcome.

RIM will most likely release a new version with the intent on capitalizing once again on the market. I dont see them being able to allocate more memory to applications based on the current hardware configuration, unfortunately.

Thus leaving current Storm owner holding the bag. I do however feel that with the new OS (no mater what it is) will have software parameters set to allocate memory more effectively.

A nice addition that I would like to see would be an introduction of a process manager that would allow you to terminate a program completely.

Either way, the next few months should be interesting to say the least.
