Thread: The Future of BlackBerry Cloud Services? (My Thoughts)

Correct me if I am wrong, but with BES10 being controlled through a web browser console, can BlackBerry not offer similar services to users not on a BES server?

Essentially a beefed up version of Protect. Allow the user to backup/restore, access files, locate all remotely through a browser based console. Along with those services, they could expand to desktop access to BBM since it is now tied into your BlackBerry ID.

Further down the road, offer proprietary Contact and Calendar systems also synced to this new Protect-like service. Again, with having access via desktop.

Would love to see some your thoughts regarding what BlackBerry could do to enhance their currently lacking cloud services.

BlackBerry does have a cloud service that they offer through Microsoft Office 356 and its pretty robust. BlackBerry used to offer something similar with BIS in which you could manage your phone via a web console.

Now if your talking about something like iCloud, then yes its something that is lacking from BlackBerry. I think for sure we will see a service like this be made available to consumers in the near future.

I am hoping that their will be more robust options coming to the PlayBook and BlackBerry Z10 once they push out the latest OS build to the PlayBook. In the Q & A with Communitech, he intimated there are many things to come.

I for one would like to see a the cloud service extended to application data and applications.

The basic Protect feature of back up and restore is a shame. Apps etc are provided for via Blackberry World, but the data.... Hope you guys are right and this is rolled out in future OS releases.

It will have to be like iCloud. Google is slowly making their products a little harder to sync with other devices, unless on Android.

The only solution is for BlackBerry to create their own PIM cloud services (that have the option to be synced with Google).

The next step has to be cloud storage/backup. If Thorsten wants BlackBerry 10 a "laptop killer", we need the best solution for data management.

Having BlackBerry ID tied into BlackBerry World, Protect, BBM, and the device itself is a great foundation.

For sure, BlackBerry ID integration was a must.

With BIS, you were able to access email settings on your computer for phone.

I know the OS is young, but this is one area BlackBerry needs to work on.
