Pressure Mounts For The Success Of BlackBerry 10. Licensing BB10 Still An Option Says RIM CEO.

While RIM is certainly counting on the success of consumers embracing their newest mobile platform BlackBerry 10, the company is not willing to place all of their eggs in one basket. The company has and wants options. With the initial release of BlackBerry 10 there was much speculation on what exactly RIM would do with its new mobile OS. Talks regarding RIM mulling over licensing options for BlackBerry 10 have been on the table ever since RIM's CEO Thorsten Heins started working on a new strategic plan for the company.

This plan is centered around the success of BlackBerry 10, whether or not consumers embrace the new mobile devices is just one hurdle the company anticipates. In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt the CEO stated that licensing BlackBerry 10 was on the list of several options that RIM had in order to ensure the success of his company. Another option the company would consider is the sale of its hardware division. This was another option that to some analysts made the most sense. "There are several options, including the sale of the hardware production is as much as licensing our software. But there is no reason for us to decide in hectic. It is important first of all, BlackBerry 10 successfully putting them on the market. Then we shall see." said Heins. (translated via Google translate)

The new CEO brings a fresh sense of direction to a company that to many, had lacked the ability to provide innovative features to its mobile devices. "We have taken the time to build a platform that is future-proof for the next ten years. Our aim is not only to smartphones, but also to the use, for example, in cars that will be in the future increasingly networked. We see with BlackBerry 10 completely new areas of growth." stated Heins.

Would really love to see this. Samsung, Sony, LG and others sporting BB 10.
But on the downside, BB10 will not be exclusive to RIM anymore.
Not to mention the loss in hardware sale, in case others made a better designed hardwares.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Cheers

I don't think the hardware sell is taken in the correct context. Doubt that would ever happen. On software, they have mulled over it, but I think that will be last resort.
