It is coming down to the home stretch for the BlackBerry maker Research In Motion. The company is gearing up for its annual developer conference BlackBerry Jam Americas. The event held in San Jose, California is geared towards developers, and but also attracts many industry leaders and BlackBerry fans. The event is one of RIM's final rallies before the launch of its new BlackBerry 10 smartphones in the beginning of next year.
What to expect
The pressure is on for RIM and we can expect the main focus to be on the BB 10 OS. This is a must sell for the struggling to company as its stocks continue to plummet, and investors and consumers are getting restless waiting for the release of BB 10. While we don't expect RIM to show off any new BB 10 phones, we do expect to see them lower the curtains to reveal a lot more of their BlackBerry 10 OS. RIM's focus at this event will be to rally up developers to make or port their apps to the BlackBerry 10 platform. This is a big piece in the success of BB 10 when its released in about 5 months. RIM is focusing on the amount apps that will be available upon the launch of the first BlackBerry 10 smartphones, and want to make sure that consumers have a lot to choose from.
With an event this big there are sure to be surprises. We already know that attendees were told to bring their Dev Alpha devices for use with certain activities. This could mean another OS update for the device or maybe even a beta RC for the BB 10 OS. RIM has also hinted towards BlackBerry 10 Theme Studio making an appearance at the event. This would also be a good time for RIM to release the BlackBerry PlayBook OS version 2.1 to the public. Right now the beta version of OS 2.1 has been made available to developers and offers improvements to the Android runtime environment, support full device encryption, and a wealth of other features. There has also been talks around the inter-webs about the possible announcement of the availability of a major application on the BB 10 platform.
