Discuss: First BlackBerry 10 Phones To Have Snapdragon S4 Pro Processors
RIM has been pretty tight lipped regarding the looks of their latest project, BlackBerry 10, and even more elusive to what kind of hardware the super-phones will have. However, we do know that RIM has standardized screen resolutions for full touch devices to 1280x720 (16:9), and 720x720 (1:1) for devices with a physical keyboard. We also know that there will be six BB10 devices released at some point over the course of next year. One of those being RIM's flagship BB10 full touchscreen device.
Now, thanks to a reliant source, we have been told that the first BlackBerry 10 smartphones will come equipped with Qualcomm's S4 Pro MSM8960T processor. The Snapdragon S4 chip is quite impressive for a mobile phone CPU, and will be even more impressive running alongside the BB10 OS. The 1.5 GHz Dual Krait, Snapdragon processor, is an ARM-based CPU that specializes in HD resolutions and multitasking.
Qualcomm labels the Snapdragon as its all-in-one processor, and uniquely integrates both the GPU and application processor together on one chipset. The Adreno 320 GPU delivers WUXGA 1080p video performance and out performs most other mobile GPU's in the market today. The chip includes full "World Mode," as it supports LTE FDD/TDD CAT 3, SVLTE-DB, TD-SCDMA, Rel9 DCHSPA+, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, EGAL, 1x Adv., and 1x EV-DO Rev. A/B.
Our source also tell us that in a meeting with Qualcomm, representatives confirmed that the processor will indeed “be on BlackBerry 10 devices when they come out” and that they are looking to release their ” S5 chipset mid 2013 “ For many, this news will be comforting, knowing that they will finally be able to hold in their hands a BlackBerry device with some serious computing power.
