Planned Network Maintainance – BIS Service Upgrade to 2.7

In the early hours of Saturday 13th June 2009, RIM will update the network software behind the Blackberry Internet Service version 2.6 to 2.7.

How will this affect our customers?

Customers should not notice any changes to their BIS service, as most of the changes are behind the scenes.

The new 2.7 version has got all the same functionality as before, with a few added extra’s. No existing BIS features will be removed.

There is one change you need to be aware of:

The menu structure within the Email Settings application is slightly different. The most crucial change to be aware of is that the Send Service Books command has been removed from the main Services and Settings menu, into the Help menu. The menu path is now Email Settings – Help – Send Service books.

    Automatic Update?

I am currently installing an "Automatic Update" for Blackberry Desktop software that showed up on my screen sometime today and this update is 111mb in size. Is this part of the BIS upgrade? Does anyone know? Being the paranoid (BUT SAFE!) guy that I am, I am hoping this update is not some kind of bug or detection device to help RIM recognize if/when a user has an unauthorized OS installed on their phone? Of course I didn't think of this until AFTER I hit the button to install the damn upgrade!:why:

Sounds like an OS upgrade for your DM, what version are you currently running. It is not a BIS upgrade.

4.7 currently, which is what the upgrade says it is too? Never got this before in almost 2 years, but the strange thing is that it's now either floating or it's taking a VERY long time to install. Hmmm...curious.
