The Day After - #BBMUglySweater Event Recap
RIM sure knows how to throw a party. Last night in NYC, RIM went all out in the BBM Ugly Sweater Event and TwistMyMind and yours truly were lucky enough to attend. As it would turn out the night was a complete success for RIM and everyone that was there.
The main focus of the night were the 30 winners of the #BBMUglySweater contest on Twitter whom each received an AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 and a pretty cool gift bag as the grand prize. The gift bag included a BBM Music shirt, BlackBerry winter gloves and a couple other BlackBerry goodies. RIM also set up an open bar for all the guests and attendees to enjoy as well as different kinds of hors d'oeuvres through out the night, which were delicious.
There were two booths set up with pretty much all the latest BlackBerrys there. Unfortunately, the mystical P9981 was a no-show at the event much like the Curve 9380 as well. Two RIM employees at the booths helped out anyone with questions about the devices and the apps they were running.
Giants legend Michael Strahan showed up to the event too. He went around taking pictures with everyone and even got to try out Angry Birds on the BlackBerry PlayBook. Later, he went on to challenge one of the attendees to a game of Madden 12 on the PlayBook. They hooked it up to one of the HD TVs they had and it was on. Of course, Michael Strahan won, in case you were wondering.
All in all, the event was definitely a success. Research In Motion definitely spent a pretty penny getting this together in New York City and it showed. Rumors were swirling around that a BlackBerry 10 device was present somewhere in the crowd but unfortunately we never saw it. It does feel that after this event, 2012 can't come soon enough. It should be a big year for RIM and the BlackBerry brand and we're sure we'll see more events like this next year.
