RIM purchases NewBay for $100 million

Research In Motion has purchased another company in an effort to improve the user experience. This time, they purchased Ireland based company NewBay for $100 million. I wonder how RIM plans on using what it gets from NewBay in the future BBX platform. Only time will tell. Not many details were revealed about this purchase but the following statement was issued.

"NewBay develops software for use on mobile phones which enables users to create and share digital content such as pictures and videos, as well as updating social networks.
It signed deals for its software with a number of major networks including T-Mobile USA, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica O2, France Telecom Orange, US Cellular, AT&T, Telstra and Verizon."

Having purchsed the PB for business and private use for one I would like to see RIM address, spend money on making features work on the PB like WebEx and other office production features. Investing in other companies for improved social communications says to me their direction is changing. I may be wrong but what happened to the road travelers for business that can use remote printing, word doc, and other editing apps that work seamlessly with the PB. I am sure there are some out there but I don't have the time to look all of them up pay or and try them only to experience this is not what I was looking for.

Not to say this was not a good acquisition to make...but come on where is WebEx (WORKING ON THE PB) and other key production tools????

I agree with you P. Blakeney. While it would be nice for RIM to design the new QNX based BlackBerry SuperPhones with forward facing cameras for video chatting, they really need to keep to the original highway for the business people. Networking can always be a frontage road for RIM to gain the social networking crowd.
