New Facebook Messenger app releases to compete with BBM

Facebook has released an Android and iOS app that allows users to chat with all of their Facebook friends all from one app. The app was said to be a direct competitor to BBM which has roughly 45 million user worldwide. What do you think of this new Facebook app, and do you think it poses a legit threat to BBM?

Not really. We anyways had many FB chat apps. Also they had official FB app with chat option available. Its not easy to beat the charm of BBM.

That is true, but I wonder If people start really liking the idea of having a stand-alone Facebook chat client they may be inclined to use that over BBM. Right now its young, but I am sure that over time it will grow to something bigger.

And since it's a stand alone chat client, it may edge out RIM in that more folks might migrate away from BlackBerrys, except for the security that RIM has with BBM, Facebook will never have.

Facebook just wants to stay alive. I doubt it will work. Facebook is dying and unless they come up with something revolutionary, they're doomed. All bbm needs do is go multi-platform...

BBM going multi-platform right now, during a time of hardship for RIM, would all but sign their death certificate. BBM is one of the biggest reasons the small amount of people that have stayed with RIM have done so.
