Android Smartphones 4x More Likely To Break Than BlackBerry Smartphones

A recent U.K. study that collected over 600,000 technical support phone calls over a 12-month period, has concluded that Android smartphones are more likely to break than their BlackBerry counterparts.

The percentages of technical support phone calls to hardware issues are:
    • Android - 14%
    • Windows 7 Phones - 9%
    • iPhone - 8%
    • BlackBerry - 3.7%

This study can be simplied down to the fact that when there are more manufacturers per platform then there are more problems. One of the biggest complaints of the Android platform is that it is very fragmented. BlackBerry is not fragmented at all. One company makes the OS and one company makes the actual phone. They work and compliment each other perfectly and this study proves it.

Technically, there are thirty-five different manufacturers of Android powered phones which makes it very hard to keep an eye on everyone's hardware development lines. Windows 7 phones have five manufacturers and obviously there's only one for both Apple and BlackBerry devices.

Give credit where credit is due people. Let's put this one in the win column for BlackBerry.

well, what to say- andro h/ware is very like andro s/ware... but the buzz feeds the people... until new buzz is made- qNx(even windows phone 7 and meego will have a chance to take on the andro buzz), and iOs has a steady path in the next couple of years...
    ps-
bb users know that their hardware is one of the best on the market, unfortunately, that doesnt count for the s/ware- which hopefully(and finally with new processors and graphics and ...) will change!!!

One of Android's most popular devices, the DroidX, is well known for having issues with the battery cover on the back of the phone breaking all the time.

Thats because they use toy phone makers like Samsung. Since droid is such a hype, it will sell your device no matter how poor the maker of the hardware is

I work and have worked in the helpdesk environment and I fully agree that Android devices generate more hardware issues than Blackberries, moreover if anyone has worked with Active sync and Android. Configuring exchange emails on the androids is such a pain in the back, that a very big corporate, I cannot name it here due to professional code of conduct has completely stopped provisioning and supporting Androids in their environment. Blackberries may be obsolete when it comes to playing music, when it comes to video chatting but when it comes to things that matter the most for a phone user. NOTHING beats a BlackBerry.

That's part of the issue in my opinion. I love to have video chat because it's a nice way to see family anywhere you are with your phone, rather than just speaking over the phone. It's also a easy way to show someone something while talking to them without having to send a picture of what you are looking at. Video chat not coming to BlackBerry smartphones until next year is a big downer. I have a family member that works for Verizon, and he says one of the main features that sells the iPhone is the front camera and easy video chat from phone to phone.

Also, as far as music goes. It is a important feature because it eliminates having another device besides your phone. So you carry around one device instead of two. The same goes for any other feature that makes it convenient to have a device.

RIM has missed the mark on both of these among others, which is why they are losing right now. And while these may not be essential necessities to use a cellphone for what's it's primary purpose is for, BBM and push email is not enough to keep RIM on top.

BlackBerrys and Apps are a NO NO but they are reliable, have good battery life, and have the best email service!

Actually, I use my BlackBerry more than my iPod for music and media. I haven't touched the iPod since August last year, I think.
