BlackBerry to integrate Bing services at the OS level

Steve Ballmer made an appearance today at BlackBerry World 2011 and announced a partnership between Microsoft and RIM to integrate Bing into BlackBerry products. In addition to making Bing the default search and map provider for all BlackBerry devices moving foward, services will be added at the OS level instead of being bundled as a series of apps. This will bring about features ranging from voice and location-aware search to panorama stitching. It also suggests that we'll likely see another iteration of BlackBerry OS 7 sometime before the Holiday season later this year!

What's your thought? Good or bad for RIM to make bedfellows with Bing? Would a Google service be better?

I used Bing once in my life, and that was because the internet browser at my friend's house used it as a default search. I use Google 24/7, if I need to search something. I don't even know what Bing does, other than search for stuff. Are there other services the give? If someone could enlighten me, that might help

Bing is pretty decent (and the rewards are great)! I see this as a great move and it could very well incite people to use Bing if they never had before. I'm more interested in seeing what kind of apps will be available for the BlackBerry OS.

From the report, it seems that Map Integration will play an important role.

This is (at least for now) a BIG bummmmer... BING maps dont have much info about my home country (T&T) - and the info they do have - is mostly wrong... Cities with wrong names, placed wrong etc....

So - unless BING improves soon - My dollar goes to Google....

Personally where my provider is concerned it will limit me even further where maps and navigation are concerned because they tie it in with their navigation app and limit the full use of Bing so you can pay them for it. Also I prefer Google as do most I'm sure. I wish they would spend a little more time developing BlackBerry maps. It's a good free alternative and could be so much better.

Good points. I imagine that they know we are skeptic to the BING service and are working on improvements. Atleast that sounds logical.
