    RIM to Produce "Super Phones"

In an interview at CES 2011, Mike Lazaridis confirmed plans to bring QNX to BlackBerry smartphones, or ‘super phones’. The new generation BlackBerry's will require dual-core processors in order to handle the QNX operating system. This is part of the grand 10 year plan that RIM has put together to stay competitive in the market. Mike went on to say:
I think in this kind of business you have to have a lot of planning. It’s one thing to take a reference design and package it. It’s another thing to build a platform that can grow with your customers’ needs, that can grow with where the market is going as opposed to where the market is today. To provide that uncompromised performance for enterprise, for government, for large corporations as well as provide an experience for the consumer that’s unique.
RIM's 10 year business model includes “the BlackBerry communications device, there’s the tablet, and there’s the super phone, the super smartphone.”

The future looks bright for RIM and we can't wait to see what is in store.

i dont trust the fat mike at-all.. Playbook was announced in september(dual core was a novelty in a way back then), now its january, it isnt available yet(dual core is reality now, with many phones -yes,even phones- and tablets releasing), and when it'll be no1 tells ya(probably even when it comes out it wont be 100% ready so again customers will have to wait additional month or two...for the right OS-build)... rim is following the great nokia to the B... wrong planing, wrong people, wrong strategy... i'll wait for december though, to see how it turns out...

RIM's 10 year model is about 5 years behind. Their "superphone" is already being put in consumers hands by other phone makers. All of their great planning always gets delayed and comes late to the party. The news just never seems to get any better as we trudge along with the BlackBerry machine. Losing faith a little bit at a time and not so excited about BB as much.

Looks to me like another "wait for it, we have something cool coming..." situation. In the tech world, that is suicidal. Never promise something to your customer that you don't have and the competition does, and tell your customer to wait for it.
Big Mike should know this, and those responsible for his auditing (The stockholders, and such) should be getting their collective stuff together. With the (very) possible addition of the IPhone to Verizon, and the Android market gaining share of the pie, RIM should really start ramping up their game or they will lose out completely. When your devices don't work properly as promised, and there are over a thousand builds to the operating system without working out the bugs, there is a serious problem in the development department.
Question to Big Mike: Why is it that the Iphone has had fewer operating system builds than BlackBerry, and still holds a large market share?
Another question: Why are you allowing an open-source device surpass your devices?
The answers to these questions lie in customer commitment. Something RIM has been lacking for quite some time. Stop developing new devices that don't work. Fix what you already have and continue from there. Dropping devices from support is a sure way to lose customers.
I could continue this on and on for pages, but I know for sure Mike won't read this anyway, so it is pointless.
Have you ever wondered why things intended to make our lives simpler keep getting more complicated to use?

Indeed the power of information and communication shared in this new age has brought about massive changes for the good of the world. Many of us believe that money is the key to happiness in life. We build things that we think will make us happy (super-phones), and we buy those things for the same reason. Society and marketing tells us that if we own them we will become happy. Telecommunication industry is so much competitive now, have to say Technology has reached a peak in the last decade.

Though, people aren't much interested in RIM's superphones as some of them are already out with similar feature but from different providers.

I think that battery life will become more of a focus too as phones continue to progress.

What many are discussing is whether RIM will end up like a Nokia... sure they are still a company that has success and sells a lot of phones, but they don't have the same quality.

I do think that RIM has caught up to the competition behind the scenes, just a matter of releasing the hounds to catch the trophy.
