Is Your BlackBerry Safe From Cyberthieves?
A new variation of an old virus has been attacking BlackBerry smartphones with the intent of foiling the defense of some banks. Apparently, the thieves use methods to grab your name and password, then trick you into revealing your mobile number. So if you get an email with some harmless links, don't click them! It may be a trick to install malware on your device, allowing the guilty party the ability to view your texts.
This enabled them to intercept the codes that increasing numbers of banks send to phones to authenticate online financial transactions. That potentially meant the attackers could cue up a transaction, wait to see the code pop up, and then drain your account.
These attacks are nothing compared to the PC assaults since the average person uses the computer much more often than their mobile device. Being aware will be a strong defense as this threat could potentially get more serious.
