RIM Officially Confirms DataViz Acquisition
A few days ago rumors were circulating that RIM had gobbled up DataViz - the developer of Documents To Go. If you recall, this is the software which enables the viewing and editing of documents on the BlackBerry and other smartphones. Rumors no more, as RIM had released a statement quoting "RIM has acquired some of the assets of DataViz and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform." Although no official terms or monetary figures were released, the earlier rumors had stated a figure of approximately $50 million being the cost of the acquisition.
Before this acquisition, DataViz had contibuted its software to all major smartphones and the iPad. Time will tell if RIM is planning to continue support for the other manufacturers as a monetary gain or slowly fade them out into obscurity.
Which direction do you feel RIM will take this newly acquired team?
Is RIM tired of falling a few steps behind everyone and trying to pull the rug out from beneath them?
