BIS 3.1 Details Document Leaks Out

Lets give a hand to BBLeaks for getting their hands on the full BIS 3.1 overview document. We get little snippets here and there but usually not the full thing. BIS 3.1 is going to be an exciting upgrade for Yahoo! and Windows Live users, but there still is no two-way Gmail integration. That is rumored to be coming out in BIS 3.3 or 3.4. Here is a brief run down on what BIS 3.1 brings to the table:

    • Yahoo! Calendar Integration
    • Yahoo! Messenger Integration
    • SMS Messaging in Certain Countries
    • Keyboard Shortcuts
    • Unlimited Storage
    • Improved Search Facilities
    • Wireless Contact Syncing with Yahoo! Contacts and Windows Live Contacts
    • Perpetual Data Synchronization

But I would also like to highlight another point that seems to be a tad overlooked. This is in regards with OS 6 for BlackBerry smartphones. In the "Requirements and Constraints" section it reads:

The use of wireless contact synchronization with Windows Live Hotmail requires BlackBerry Device Software 6.0 and Windows Live Hotmail integration with BlackBerry Internet Service.

Now I might be reading into it a bit much, but if RIM wants to roll out Windows Live integration to everyone, they will need OS 6. This could possibly mean that a large number of in-market devices could get OS 6. But we won't know until WES which is on April 27th through the 29th. RIM will most likely put to rest all the OS 6 rumors, and announce all the new phones that have gotten all of the BlackBerry users in a fervor. But as of now there is no set time line for when BIS 3.1 will roll out.
