RIM Wins Patent Law Suit Filed By Motorola In British Courts
Well hey look at this, some good news regarding these patent law suits RIM keeps finding themselves in. As we said last night on the BlackberryOS Web Show, Motorola claims RIM is infringing on several of their patents in areas such as Wi-Fi access and power management. The ruling handed out by the British court states that RIM did not infringe on one of Motorola's patents for email. The infringements stem from a disagreement Motorola has saying that RIM has continued to use patents longer than the agreed time period of 2003 to 2007. The ruling in the British court does not affect the law suits Motorola has in the U.S. However, the ruling will most likely have an impact with ITC, which Motorola has asked to investigate the alleged patent infringements. This is a nice small victory for RIM who has seen their fair share of patent law suits lately.
