New info on the BIS 3.0 update this March!

Back in November we heard that the next upgrade to the mighty Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) would bring us a better experience with Gmail, Yahoo!, and Hotmail e-mail services. Our pals over at BBLeaks just got word that it doesn't end there! The 3.0 BIS update, scheduled for March, should also include these awesome new features:
    • OpenOffice file support- Presentations, text documents, and spreadsheets
    • Support for Windows Media Audio (WMA)

I can't tell you how many times someone has sent me a WMA file in an email that I couldn't open. Well, that won't be a problem much longer! This will be a very welcome update while we wait on that brand spankin' new browser *ahem* maybe by summertime??? *cough*

In my opinion, RIM has needed to address their Browser experience without a doubt.
The handheld device/smartphone is said to take place the the PC/Laptop within the next decade.
I feel RIM will always be in the talks and discussions of the smartphone market but if they want to be one of the leaders in the industry if not the leader then this Bowser need to get pushed to the head of the line in the R & D department.

Its in every Quality Management textbook... Continuous improvement is absolutely necessary for competition in the global marketplace! Slowly but surely RIM is getting better.

With so many markets suddenly opening to RIM (UK for instance - the consumer on the street rather than in the office) they have to get these items out quicker. The consumer demands more and if RIM dont keep up they will lose out to things like the IPhone (can i say that on here?).

I remember getting a new car in the late 90's, air conditioning had become standard, something my father would never have got, but now we have automatic lights and wipers as standard, air conditioning has been standard for a number of years, but the consumer still demands more from the maker...

Each time the maker adds a "standard" item to is products, we, the consumers, are demanding more and if they dont make it, or ignore us/it, we will eventually walk away.

RIM will listen but how long will it take?

    Sure you can

I fully agree up to the point of loosing customers. I'm not so sure, if they will immediately loose, but I could imagine, that they at least win no new customers if not up to speed with competition.

One of the drawbacks in this market is that you don’t know all that your competitors are doing or where they are at in their development cycle. If you are a company that always looks at it as “me to” then you are destined to stay in the background or catch up mode. As developers and engineering try to stay on top of the tools of technology that keep them up to date it is the responsibility of the company Giant Heads to keep innovation out front of their competitors and lead with new ideas and capabilities. This along with keeping their finger on the pulse of the market place will keep them in front and if you know your market you know what they want before they do and provide it. However this arena has no room for missing the mark and if done it is difficult to recover from in the short term.
Do you price your product low to get mass market share, or do you price and offer enough to keep them on the hook. Your name can only go so far before the sting of poor quality or poor response takes over.
