Motorola Files Complaint Against RIM; Asks ITC to Ban BlackBerry Imports
Well here we ago again, another patent fight against RIM. That makes how many in the last year now? This time it's Motorola alleging that RIM infringed on Motorola's patents in key technology areas, including Wi-Fi access and power management.
Motorola sounds pretty angry about it too. Jonathan Meyer, senior vice president of intellectual property law at Motorola says "Motorola had no choice but to file a complaint with the ITC to halt RIM's continued infringement. Motorola will continue to take all necessary steps to protect its (research) and intellectual property, which are critical to the company's business."
In the complaint filed by Motorola they are asking the ITC to investigate their claims and ban RIM imports. Now the thought of this happening is a scary world for any BlackBerry addict. But we all know the likelihood of that happening is slimmer than a paper clip.
Motorola is also accusing RIM of using "delay tactics" in a lawsuit that is pending in the courts filed in 2008 by each company accusing the other of misappropriating technology.
