Thread: Take Off Your Shoes, AND Your BlackBerry!

Whenever I visit my parents, I hear the lovely screeching voice of my mother yelling "Take Off Your Shoes!" before I even get in the door. It's a good thing she isn't in Congress. According to a brief article by CNN, Cabinet members not only leave their shoes at the door, but their BlackBerry's as well. Apparently not even the security offered by RIM isn't good enough. Does this make you question the U.S. Government's nearly exclusive use of BlackBerry's? Or does it make you questions the results of last years election?

Or more over does it make you question the intelligance of our congress members lol.

What do they do with the box? Does it get stored in a secure vault or anything? To me it seams like whomever is responsible for the box, could easily rifle through the devices looking for sensitive information and phone numbers. Something like that happened recently in Mexico didn't it?

Of course they dont take Blackberries into closed sessions of congress.

The enemies can activate the microphone of a cell phone and listen to everything within the mics range.....Not good for opsec

No, a Mexican officials help stole a few cell phones from a similar "box" area at the whitehouse....they were caught and busted....

More proof that "our" government has no real concept of real security. If you need to secure a phone, pull the battery and lock it in your office before you leave to go into session. Anything important will still get into your in box and the "bad guys" can't turn it on and listen in on conversations. Third graders know this much, maybe our congressmen should catch up.

This is just silly, IMO. I wouldn't want to put my precious berry into a box with my name on it. You can probably find John McCain fishing through there for the newest Blackberrys so he doesn't have to buy them!
