BBM 5.0 launching October 7th?

The Internet is abuzz over an email that has been released stating that BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 will be released globally on October 7th! For those of you that don't use BBM, or aren't sure what changes have been made, you are in for a treat!
- Enhanced SMS - think "threaded"
- Avatars
- Large media file transfer
- Group Functionality
- Bar-Code Identity
- Reliable Contact Backup and Restore
For those of you running a leaked 5.0 OS, the news get's even better! Enhanced SMS requires Device Software 5.0 and later. Two arguments can be made from that statement. First, the official 5.0 OS release may be right around the corner. Second, this official Messenger release should work on all current 5.0 leaks! 48 hours has never seemed so long!

It's about time. Can't wait. I wonder if we will get a pop up asking us to upgrade or we will have to look for a link to a download page?

we "should" get a pop up, but may have to go looking for it. Just maybe some of the guys using it with 5.0 can just post it now. you know leak it :D. So we can get started early :laugh2:

Deffinitely. It might even hurt S2 sales.:D

I doubt it. The percentage of Storm users that install leaks is very small.:p

If it becomes official I am sure RIM will allocate the necessary bandwidth to make this work the way it was designed to!

Let's hope so. I'm back on .53 with BBM 5.0.0.8, mainly for broadcast messaging. I was having some issues with 5.0...and it had been almost three days since I changed OS's. LOL I had to do something.

Well I will sell my S1 with 5.0.0.230 and all my apps when the S2 comes out :D. Unless there is another leak with a higher build then i'm staying here. I do think however that the s1 will be much much more marketable with a 5.0 OS and dome new eye candy even at $79 to $99

If it works as expected, we should receive a pop-up. Probably like the one last week that didn't work LOL

I'm not so sure about that. I'm considering dumping the Tour for the S2. I tried auctioning my first born, but she saw the post :(

Yeah really.

Hopefully this release will be much better than .8. If so, I'll be putting 5.0 back on my Tour. LOL it'll be three days anyway.

I agree with you. If it gets released on wed. morning there will be alot of people walking around again looking down towards thier phones using IM
