Hmm. Maybe the backed up files doesn't have all your contacts?

This may be a silly question, but why would RIM have different servers for 5.0 BBM instead of using the same ones as the previous versions? Would it be because of all the new data that 5.0 supports? If so, would they really need new servers for that?

thats because the new bbm it was supposed to be for beta tester not for the masses, does that make any sense?

I thought the same thing at first. The only conclusion I can come up with is that there are certain features, such as avatars, that require a new version of the server to support it. Yahoo has been known to do similar things with Yahoo Messenger. Most recently they changed their authentication protocol. This required newer servers and eventually they phased out their older servers.

Good thought - but, when I switched devices, I restored from this very same backup and all contacts were there.

Only other idea I have is to try restoring the whole back up and uninstalling/reinstalling DM.

Hmm... that sounds ugly! I've got one more trick up my sleeve - I have a more recent backup at work that I'll try to pull the contacts from. Otherwise....well, I dunno.

Thanks for the help - I'll let you know if anything works.
