I bricked my phone 3-4 times before I succeeded.
Here is the steps I used:
1. Make sure you have a Stock BBM (5.0.1.49 seems to work well)
2. Install BlackBerry ID app (BlackBerry ID [OS6] - Downloads - BBH-Plus Forums)
3. Install BBM 6.0.0.56 (via OTA)

But it worked right away, and you can see by the screenshots it works. But then again, you got it to work too :P
Im looking forward to more teases of OS6.1

First, try a battery pull to see if that helps jolt your OS a bit. Never hurts to try. If that doesn't help, try the following...
Reinstall the Stock BBM (5.0.1.49 seems to work well)
1. Then reboot device before installing anything
2. Install BlackBerry ID app (BlackBerry ID [OS6] - Downloads - BBH-Plus Forums)
3. Install BBM 6.0.0.56 (via OTA)
4. Reboot device once more once finished installing

The stock BBM is the BBM version that is installed automatically with your level of OS. So, unless you installed a leaked OS or something then you already have a stock BBM version installed.
I would do the battery pull and try to reinstall through steps 2 - 4 and see what happens.
