Thread: New BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.1.5 now in beta testing

Seems some lucky beta testers at the BB Beta Zone have got a chance to test drive the new BBM. Unfortunately there seems to be little to no chance of it leaking anytime soon due to the insanely long activation code that is required. But don't fear, there aren't many enhancements in this new version. Most testers that are giving out info have stated that is mostly consists of under the hood fixes. There are a few notable new features though:

• View contacts as 1 or 2 line
• Improved SMS integration
• Option to automatically record when sending Voice Notes

Not really anything to write home about, huh? But even so it shows that RIM is still trying to improve an already great BBM app. I have seen some reports through Twitter today that the app feels "snapier" as well. Hopefully the behind the scene fixes that they are implementing will continue to speed things up.

Couldn't agree more.

Same here.
One plus is that the keyboard seems to work properly now in group chats. it didn't pop up before on the 607 OS.
Otherwise, a couple of additional options and that's about it. I was expecting a lot more.

I really wish they would give us more emoticons or a better way to save them so they show up with the rest.

This version of BBM is in private beta testing and will not be shared with anyone outside of the private beta test group.

Even if you had the link and installed it, you would not be able to use it as their is a key tied to your PIN which is 172 characters I believe. You would never get it to work

Off topic sorry but where is the option to change that highlight color for buttons? In that photo download button is highlighted in orange and I can't find an option to change my color from blue. Is this an option or app or what? Thanks

It is probably tied to a theme...I have not seen an option for button colors

My colors change as I change themes.

Thanks for letting me know. I was wondering about that cuz I dig through my options all the time and never saw that.

I really would like to become a beta tester, I am not in the US, Canada or UK but i take the surveys with RIM and I encourage a lotta ppl to get blackberries

So I have noticed that people who are in my contacts, their picture no longer shows in BBM. The only people with pictures are those that are not in my contacts. Otherwise I have not seen a whole lot different :no:

I have been using it for a few days and its really nothing special I might just go back to .66
