How To Recover A "Nuked" Berry (Advanced Users)

All credit for this goes to Reed McLay @ Crackberry for the original post,
Thanks to acnst @ BlackBerry Forums
Credit to cmedeir for the XP command line.
Credit to Afterfreeze for the Vista 64 command line.

    1. In order to restore the device, you need to have BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed. The original, as supplied on the BlackBerry CD is adaquite. Tip: If you choose to download the newest v4.3, you can save a lot of time by choosing custom install and disabling Roxio Media Manager. At start-up, it really slows things down until it has built up it index of media. Ref #2 links to BlackBerry's download site.

    2. After it is installed, you need to install a BlackBerry OS file that is specific to your device. The original version, as supplied by the carrier, is the safe choice, but you can use any model specific version. This is not supplied on your BlackBerry CD.

    3. Once the OS has been installed, you have to prepare it for the device.

Select Start / Computer and select the Drive C: Icon.

Open Program Files / Common Files / Research in Motion / AppLoader.

Navigate to the bottom and delete the file Vendor.XML file.

    4. You are now ready to restore your device. Verify that BlackBerry Desktop Manager is NOT running. Plug the device directly into the computer's USB port.

We are about to venture into the bowls of the beast. Windows is not suitable for this job, we are going to invoke the Command line interface with an option switch. This was the way all computers worked prior to Macintosh and Windows.

Windows XP: Start / Run... / Type "Command" into box without the quotes.

Windows Vista: Click on Start / Type "Command" into search box without the quotes.

Click on picture for full view

You will see a black window similar to this. I have used UPPERCASE to highlight the typed commands.

    Windows Vista

    CD \
    CD PROGRAM FILES
    CD COMMON FILES
    CD RESEARCH IN MOTION
    CD APPLOADER
    LOADER /NOJVM

    Windows XP

    CD \
    CD PROGRA~1
    CD COMMON~1
    CD RESEAR~1
    CD APPLOA~1
    LOADER /NOJVM

When using Vista 64 bit operating systems the command should look like this...

    CD \
    CD PROGRAM FILES (x86)
    CD COMMON FILES
    CD RESEARCH IN MOTION
    CD APPLOADER
    LOADER /NOJVM

When you hit enter at the last command a forced rebuild will start. No data or setting will be saved, however, they can be recovered from a previous backup.

    5. Wait for it to finish.Thirty minutes is typical, do not interrupt it.

Once it has recovered, you can use Desktop Manager's Application Loader to customize it and restore from your backup files, if you have saved them previously.

Type EXIT in the Dos window when finished with it to close it down.

Here's my problem. I've wiped my storm and now i can not get an OS to load....they all seem to transfer over to the berry but once it starts up for the first boot the progress bar gets about a quarter the way across and stops...then it sets there for about 3 minutes and then it goes to a white screen with "app error 200" and a reset link....doesn't matter what OS i use, or what process i use to load...same result

    Can you help me?

Hello, first of all I want to thank you for the nice tutorial.

But I am having a problem restoring it.
It comes to wait for device initialization then a popup appearss and it says "Connection Prompt", my device was disconnected somehow, I tried it at 3 pc's and it all the pc's gave the same problem, I have a blackberry bold 9000 and I am sure that is it nuked.

    I made a printscreen:

The things I tried after the error:
I tried to pull out the battery, and the usb cable, then I put the usb cable back in it and the battery, but it didn't worked.
I also have 2 batterys, 1 new battery I bought, but that one doesn't work either. So it is not a battery problem.

    Hope someone can help!

Similar to Darkwa, I have same problem, "seem to transfer over to the berry but once it starts up for the first boot the progress bar gets about a quarter the way across and stops", and 1971801086 message "Device in cal mode" Platform version 4.2.0.442 - Flash Type NAND Flash, on white screen.

I have 2 BB Storm 9550, one operating, unlocked, working great, so please cut off basic recommendation stuff: connection, cable, battery, etc. they have been tested in bad one, without success.

I wiped it with MFI Multiloader because device have been used 10 bad codes so it was blocked (not me, by the way), I try his original OS Verizon and last Blackberry Desktop Manager (others version too, reinstalling from "zero")
I can read PIN BSN IMEI etc with RadioLabTool, so not all is lost.

Any suggestion to reinstall Operating System?

I have Windows 7, where I can not change USB port configuration (I tried "Do not disconnect device"). Let me kow if somebody use it on Windows XP. Thanks in advance
