Post Tips & Tricks For All Blackberries

First of all please feel free to move this thread under the Sticky if you think it will go there better. I tought more people would read this under the Tour device than the standard Tips and Tricks catagory....

    Things We Take For Granted:

With the hard earned money we pay for our devices nowadays for these little mini computers I know that we tend to forget many things once we get used to using it and we have this quest to learn more that we forget what I like to call General maintanance and overall things we can do to keep out BBs running smooth.

    Batteries:

I think the single biggest thing we all forget is to condition our batteries when we first bring home our new device. We all play with it with the small charge until it goes dead andthen stop until we have to fully charge it.

Even though these are litium ion batteries the best thing we can do is the first charge to be a full one and then use the device until we almost if not run the battery all the way down and then recharge it fully. This will go a long way to cycle your battery the first time to put it in proper condition.

    Turn Off Once A Day:

Every carrier will tell you this but if they don't and you already do not know it, another good thing you can do is to power off your device one aday for about 3-5 mins. which gives it a chance to reconnect to the closest tower for better signal quality but also helps to clean up your memory.

    Rebooting:

Believe it or not rebooting or doing a battery pull on your device not only after you install an app or theme to make sure it is fully installed but it is important to help defrag and clean memory just the same as you would your PC at home.

Making Sure You Allways Are Connected To The Closest Tower:

This is a little known fact but the carrier(at least VZW) will always tell you to make sure every so often to hit *228 and send and then option #2 to make sure you are connected to the nearest tower for best signal strength but this is not what they tell you.

First of all as if you are making a call hit ##000000 then send and a screen will come up and half way down you will see a listing for Home SID which is usually 2 digits.

Now that you have that call your carrier and let them know thatyou are aware of this and you would like them to look up your home 5-6 digit Home SID based on your zip code. Once they give it to you just replace the 2 digit number with the one they gave you, hit the BB button and save. This will ensure you will always be connected to the closest tower.

    Cleaning Up At Night:

Now I know this may sound silly but through the day from all the calls we may make andwhat we do with out BBs...using your calender, sending out SMS or email you get grease and oil on your device that you should wipe off at night after powering down for the night using a micro fiber cloth like for eyeglasses.

This will keep your BB looking good for years to come especially the screen and keyboard.

I know that as I said before we sometimes tend to forget the obvious and what we should do to keep these little mini computers running at their best so we have them for a long time.

I hope I provided you with somethings to think about and did not mean to take this to be too long a thread.
