One of my BlackBerry users, his wife washed his pants with his BlackBerry in it. Phone would not turn on at all. Water damage voids-warranty, he bought himself a new one, shipped it back to HQ's.

I took the whole thing apart, cleaned all the acidic from the prongs and the rust that was developing inside the phone with a tiny flat head. Popped a new battery in it and the BlackBerry works perfect

The rice trick, the best way to use it is to get a zip lock bag, put some rice in the bag remove all the parts you can from the BlackBerry and place them on top of the rice, then close the zip lock bag.

The trick has worked with many of my users I support.

If I could throw out a suggestion. My phone was dropped into a pool. I went out and bought a bag of white rice and threw my phone in the bag. Make sure that your phone is completely covered. Also remove the battery and back cover before throwing in the bag. Let sit for 24hrs...The rice absorbs all the moisture my phone worked like new afterwards.

I have used the rice trick with a little variation.

    1. Remove battery, sim card, and media card.
    2. Place handset in a distilled water bath, agitate gently for a few minutes. (helps to remove acidic water and minerals that encrust solder points and contacts)
    3. Place handset in an alcohol bath, agitate gently for a few minutes. (helps to remove water, always provide plenty of ventilation or perform this step outside)
    4. Place handset on top of a bed of dry rice in a shallow ovenproof dish or pan, screen side up. Cover handset with rice.
    5. Place dish, hand set and all, into a toaster oven or conventional oven that can be set to 150 degrees Fahrenheit or less! 125 degrees is perfect.
    6. Wait 48 hours before testing or replacing battery.

Sometimes this will help with LCDs that have a little clouding on them, as that will usually be trapped moisture.
