hmm. found in desktop manager the way to install other languages. hopefully it works. fingers crossed![]()
i followed the tutorial step by step but when i get to the "device application selection" screen ther are no tabs to check or un-check. and i cant seem to load any files into the window. [im using a certified version of the software downloaded from my carriers website] any advice?![]()
Lets back up a little. Are you using Desktop Manager (DM) to up grade or are you upgrading to an OS that your carrier is not yet releasing?
What exact step are you in when the error occurs.
If you are upgrading to an OS not released by your carrier:
Do not use your DM to try the upgrade.
Make sure all prior OS downloads have been deleted.
Remember to delete the vendor file.

im using a version of the software released by my carrier. so deleting the vendor file was not neccessary. but i tried both options. with and without the vender file. And still nothing......
Using bbsak or the loader application both lead to basically the same "device application selection" screen. and from that point, is where i seem to be having the problem.
So then you're using your DM since it is a carrier release.
This is where I'm having trouble figuring out what is happening. Usually, when you open DM and then plug your device in, DM will recognize and if there is any upgrades from your carrier, it will advise you of such and ask if you want to download those updates. When you accept, the upgrades are downloaded automatically. Using bbsak is not necessary.
If you have done the above without bbsak, without downloading the OS onto your computer and still having issues, let me know and I'll get together with my team and figure out what is happening.

Bassically I deleted all other previous versions of the software on the pc in the add/remove section in the control panel 1st . I downloaded the os software, installed it to the pc. i then did a wipe of the phone using bbsak. then when i tried loading the new os the bbsak way and the apploader way it ended up at the "device application selection" screen, with no options to install.
did you delete your vendor.xml ?

To find BlackBerry Vendor.xml files in Windows 7...
( C: )... Program Files(x86)... Common Files... Research In Motion... App Loader...
( C: )... Users... (your user directory)... App Data... Roaming... Research In Motion... BlackBerry... Loader XML...
To search from the field entry just go to C: drive and type vendor.xml in search field. It may take a bit to search if you haven't indexed your C: drive.
i would make sure its gone other wise the desktop manager wont see the handheld software. Make sure you check the second spot as well. sometimes people miss it and its the cause of their problems.

A couple things...
First, make sure that you have installed the OS that you want onto your computer and uninstalled any other OS' that you don't want.
Second, make sure that all vendor.xml files have been deleted... How To search for & delete your vendor.xml file.

Use the information in this thread to update your device to the latest OS7.1.0.267
Thank you.
Sorry rafdina, I was mobile when you asked this question and I guess my message didn't get sent.
There is no need to wipe a device that is OS6 or above unless you want to, or you run into problems during the upgrade. You should be able to install it per the instructions in All In One Guide - How To Upgrade Your Device - with Pictures & Videos

Thank you so much with your reply ghostryder. I have gone through the thread you have mentioned above. The instruction asked us to wipe the data. However, it did mention that OS 6 and 7 did not need a total wipe. In this case, can I install the new software normally (i.e. click on apploader and install as usual).
