How To: Gain 7.149MB of Memory

    1. Wipe Phone, I use JL_Commander, instructions here

    2. Install devices software to PC, (not the device).

    3. Navigate to:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\research in motion\shared\loader files\Your OS\Java

    4. Delete the following files (Be careful to choose the correct ones):
    net_rim_bb_medialoader_360x480_t.cod – 1.891MB

    net_rim_bb_medialoader_backgrounds_360x480_t.cod - 5.258 MB

An easy way to find these files is to change the view to details and scroll until you see the 5 MB file. The 1MB file is right with it.

5.Install the OS to device through the loaderapp.

Great idea Neo. I have not done this myself, but I would assume that you could Use Crackutil in FILE MANIPULATION - INTERMEDIATE tab also. This method would be for people that want to delete these .cods from there currently loaded OS's. It would prevent wiping and reloading the OS. I will try this in the morning and post my findings with a How To if successful.

I gotcha.. So you can confirm this works with crackutil also. I went to try this morning and apparently I deleted all this stuff previously with crackmem a while back. Thanks Neo.

    Thanks,
    Here you go:
    Crackutil

From the help file in crackutil - Program by: pete6

What CrackUtil Is Designed To Do

CrackUtil is a free program designed to be a Swiss Army Knife tool for your BlackBerry phone.

CrackUtil has several functions. To use CrackUtil, you must first connect your BlackBerry phone to the PC via a USB cable. Do not run Desktop Manager at this time.
Since CrackUtil uses the RIM tool javaloader.exe all the actual javaloader commands issued by CrackUtil are shown at the end of the CrackUtil button selection description i.e. Command: javaloader –usb wipe -f

    Thanks,
Pblakeney, basically Crackutil lets you view, modify, and remove files on your OS loaded on your phone without having to completly reload it. With Crackutil, you just change what needs changed and then the phone reboots and your done.

    Question

Not meaning to thread hi-jack but I've been able to successfully open my Storm 9530 with CrackUtil, but I don't see the file(s) that can be deleted to free up the space. Am I overlooking something? I have searched up and down the file listing, but don't see the referenced files:

    net_rim_bb_medialoader_360x480_t.cod ? 1.891MB

    net_rim_bb_medialoader_backgrounds_360x480_t.cod - 5.258 MB

Could it be that the files are cod files? and are used when the OS is being loaded?

I deleted both of those files when I installed the .114 v3 hybrid, but I still have the sample pictures. Did it twice to make sure I didn't miss something, but they're still there. Even went back & checked the Java folder on my pc AFTER I installed the hybrid. Files aren't there, but they show up on the phone. Weird, I don't know
