Thread: How to install new Blackberry Messenger using DM...includes pics, 5 min process

BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOU SHOULD ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE THE MOST RECENT OPERATING SYSTEM ON YOUR PHONE (official or leaked). THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL WORK ON YOUR DEVICE BECAUSE THIS SOFTWARE IS BETA (Not Released).


Step One:
No pictureshere, just download the zip file...remember where it downloaded to we will need to go back there.

Step Two
Open the zip folder and extract all contents to a folder name you can remember. I extracted mine to a folder called bbm.


Step Three
Open Windows Explorer (I'm assuming you know how) and navigate to the folder where you extracted your new messenger files (mine is bbm)


Step Four
Navigate to the For 4.7. 0 (or whatever your folder is) and move the cod files so that they are in the same folder as your alx file (see above, I just moved the cod file and the english cod file.)

Step Five
Plug in phone and run DM (No pictues here sorry)

Step Six
Select Application Loader


Step Seven
Select add/remove application by pressing the start button.


Step Eight
Select Browse and Navigate to the folder that you made and put the blackberry messenger alx and cods files. (I navigated to my documents and then bbm)



Step Nine
Select the file Blackberry_Messenger alx file. and press open



Step Ten:
After you finish step nine you are nearly home free. The next step is to press the Next Button and DM will install this file and reboot your Blackberry.

1) Blackberry Model
2) Operations System - found in options ----> about
3) Phone Carrier
4) Error Message / or situation.

No problem, I know it can be difficult and trying to add files to the java folder and use app loader is much more than the layperson is willing to try.

Works fine with yours though? You could try a battery pull. Sometimes that works.

lol i hate bbs sumtimes will try that

update my pc will not pick up my wifes fone no matter what.. lol

Yeah every now and again I have to reboot my entire system.

Does anyone have a 8330 with this working? Every time I install it, my BBM icon disappears although I see BBM v5 in the Applications List. DM tells me the installation was successful but when the BB is reloaded, it comes back with no BBM.

I downgraded back to the older BBM and the icon is back although all my BBM Contacts are gone.

I haven't tried yet using Loader.exe - do you think it might make a difference?

hey .. am a newbiee here and have followed your step by step intrsutions .. my device is network barred via Vodafone and am currently have 4.6 OS running on it .. the DM says there are no further applications to be loaded on choosing the alx file which is sepearte from the cod file in a seperate folder .. pls help ... pls

I have an 8330 running 4.5.0.160.

I used the download for the 83xx, unzipped and moved all the ,cod files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader\8330-v4.5.0.106_P3.4.0.41\Java

Some files already in the Java folder had the same name so I allowed it to replace the old with the new.

Then I moved the .alx file to C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\
Loader\8330-v4.5.0.160_P3.4.0.41

Then I opened the DM and opened the application loader, it showed an upgrade for BBM to 5.0, I clicked next and it installed and after the reboot it was up and running.

The icon appears in custom themes and default themes.

Note that the Program Files (x86) is for Vista, for XP it's just Program Files

I hope this helps someone get theirs figured out.

Hey can anyone tell me the difference between BBM files 5.0 and 5.1??

seems to be an issue with .77 are you considering to upgrade...
