I'm pretty cpu savy...I can't find the folder you have referenced on my cpu. I'm running vista 64 bit version, the most recent version of DM.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\[YOUR OS FOLDER]. Put the ALX file in there. And the Cod files in the Java folder.

    Then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and run loader.exe.

Hoover let me elaborate a little

In order to copy the folders from the BBM 5.0 download you need to have the current OS installed on your pc that is installed on your phone (unless you plan to upgrade the OS.) Once you have installed the above OS on your PC you will then have folders you need to load BBM 5.0 on your phone through either app loader or Desktop manager.

Welcome to BlackberryOS. You are installing for your 8900 correct? Do you have the OS for your device installed on your computer?

    Select your phone model.
    Download and run the installer.
If you are on the Verizon network, I highly advise that you do not upgrade to 4.5.0.160 due to instability. You will get the dreaded loud chirp during calls and other issues. I upgraded to 4.5.0.131 from Sprint (also CDMA) and got the BBM 5 to load and operate fine using the loader.exe method.

Many users have reported success by trying multiple times. Seems the Bold and 8900 can be very finicky. What OTA link are you trying?

niiice! any chance i can get this working on the 8830? i didn't see a link for the 88xx series, but i figure since mine is as powerful as the 83xx series curve, and is running OS 4.5, someone should find a way. will the curve 8300 version work, by any chance, on mine?

Welcome to BlackberryOS. The general requirements for BBM 5.0 is a device running at least OS version 4.5.0.138. For the 8830 use the same version as the Curve since both devices currently can run OS 4.5.

Welcome to BBOS, I promise that we can get your fixed up.

First, What OS version are you running. You can find this in your options->about menu?

If you are running a version less than 4.5.0.160 you will need to upgrade your software first.

Do This by following the directions from SMCOLDBB that I posted below to upgrade your software.

first step backup your data via dm
back up your 3rd parties with this link ; Video - How to backup your Third-Party Applications

remove any os from your pc c: control panel > add/remove programs > delete any RIM os there one will be DM the other if any will be the os

    download this 4.5.0.160 https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E607FE7CC0E1A0

once it's loaded on the PC ( takes about 20-30minutes) follow this path
c: program files > common files > research in motion > apploader - at the bottom of the list you should see a file called a vendor file - delete that. reboot pc

    download this; http://www.berryosfiles.com/downloads/BBM_4.5.0.zip
to your "my doc's" extract or save to..: open that and right click on the single file ( blackberry messanger .alx) copy

reopen c: program files > common files > research in motion > now go to shared > loader - place it here

    go back to BBM5 file and select every other file and place them in here;
c: program files > common files > research in motion > now go to shared > loader - open your os and open the java folder and right click paste 0 over write all files

    NOW YOUR DONE INSTALLING BBM5.0

now we load--- go to c: program files > common files > research in motion > apploader and with your device pluged in open the apploader icon (looks like a little phone) follow the steps but make sure you put a checkmark beside any of the apps in the list you want to be placed back onto your device.

give it a shot and let us know if you get stuck

    Step One:
No pictureshere, just download the zip file...remember where it downloaded to we will need to go back there.

    Step Two
Open the zip folder and extract all contents to a folder name you can remember. I extracted mine to a folder called bbm.

    Step Three
Open Windows Explorer (I'm assuming you know how) and navigate to the folder where you extracted your new messenger files (mine is bbm)

    Step Four
Navigate to the For 4.7. 0 (or whatever your folder is) and move the cod files so that they are in the same folder as your alx file (see above, I just moved the cod file and the english cod file.)

    Step Five
Plug in phone and run DM (No pictues here sorry)

    Step Six
    Select Application Loader

    Step Seven
Select add/remove application by pressing the start button.

    Step Eight
Select Browse and Navigate to the folder that you made and put the blackberry messenger alx and cods files. (I navigated to my documents and then bbm)

    Step Nine
Select the file Blackberry_Messenger alx file. and press open

    Step Ten:
After you finish step nine you are nearly home free. The next step is to press the Next Button and DM will install this file and reboot your Blackberry.
I am sorry to bother but i did everything that you tell us to do and i get an error message saying "The application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded" anything you can recomemed me to do!!!!

Welcome to BlackberryOS. Not a bother at all. What device are you looking to install it on and what OS are you running on it?
