One of the advantages of owning a BlackBerry device is that you have the ability to load Android apps along side your native BlackBerry 10 applications. This has opened up the door for some pretty nifty Android apps to make their way to on to BlackBerry.

One such application is AirDroid. This application will allow you to mange your device running the Android OS, directly from your web browser. Once loaded you can remotely manage things like, applications, photos, camera, files, music, and videos. AirDroid can easily be sideloaded on to your BlackBerry Z10, Q10 and even your BlackBerry PlayBook.

While the application loads fine on those devices there are some obvious caveats, like not being able to mange any of the phone options. However, most everything else does work just fine. In this quick how-to I will show you how to get started.

How To Get Started

Things you will need

AirDroid v2.0.2 (download here)

Step One: Sideload the application

The first thing you will need to do is sideload the application on to your BlackBerry device. If you do not know how to do this head on over and review our guide on how to sideload.

Step Two: Setup the device

Once the application is installed on to your BlackBerry device you will need make sure that your WiFi connection is turned on.

Next, launch the AirDroid app and take note of the url listed in the “Open web address” section. This will most likely have a number that starts with 192.168.x.x , and end with the port number 8888.

Step Three: Remotely connect to the device

Open up any web browser, and enter the url you took note of earlier. I have tested both Chrome and Firefox and they both work just fine.

Next tap on accept notification on your device to allow the remote session.

Your browser will now present you with the following screen:

You are now remotely connected to your device. There are many options in here that you can play around with. One such option is the ability to remotely control your camera, I can see some people getting very creative with this option.
