Bold OS changes leave my BB slower??

Hi all,
kind of a long story here so bear with me please. I got my BB Bold at the beginning of '09 and came with whatever OS Rogers had out at the time. I may have even upgraded once without any problem. Anyway, about two months ago I got brave and installed 5.0 on it. Had a lot of nice improvements but was still too slow and glitchy for me so I had planned on going back. So I went back to whatever OS I had...I can't remember but it was recent. It seemed ok but my camera was VERY slow to open and when I clicked on Options/Memory, it took quite a while for the memory page to load. But then Rogers officially released 4.6.0.282 so I though "hey, great timing." I"ll upgrade to the new .292 and it will fix everything.

Nope. My brother in law who got a bold the same day I did, can now open his camera, focus on me and take a pic even before my screen shows the camera viewfinder! And the memory page is still really slow!

Now these may not seem like big deals, but I wonder what other glitches the 5.0 may have left me with.

Ok (whew) here is my question. I just did the downgrades/upgrades through DM... should I do a wipe???

And if so, how do I save my apps, contacts, messages etc when I wipe? I still have the .282 file on my computer so that isn't a big deal. I can reinstall.

I hope this makes sense and I hope that someone can help... I would prefer to wipe as my last option as I have never done it before, and being a lifetime computer user, the thought of "erasing" anything scares me!!

I would do a wipe since you are having problems with the device

do a normal backup through the DM and then the third party app backup found here

I agree 100% with Neo and will just add to wipe your device you can use the new app BBSAK found Here it has a nice and user friendly interface. Once you back up through DM for your device memory and then use the link Neo provided for the 3rd party apps. Run this program and then re install :)

So is it ok to do a wipe though the options menu or do I have to d/l the JL commander or whatever it's called LOL.

It's ok just not a full wipe, which is what you want to do.

Ok great.. I am downloading BBSAK now as we speak...so first do the video app backup..then a DM backup..then BBSAK wipe..then restore via DM, and restore the app alx. file? Do I have it all?

After you back up your 3rd party apps and device memory do a security wipe on your handled

options>security>general settings>bb key>wipe handheld then once that is done wipe with BBSAK

Then install your OS and restore through DM and you should be good to go.

I suggest the wipe hand held due to BBCrackman finding this helps get rid of all the little stuff that might get left on even with a full device wipe with BBSAK

Of course this couldn't go smoothly. Did I mention I have terrible luck...but only for about..ummm, the last few years!!

I am running a hybrid of Vista and Windows 7...soon to be reverted back to Vista.

Anyway... I can't find that backup file/folder from my DM "switch" anywhere!! Does it have a specific name, like 'pin.alx' with pin being well, my pin? or does the .alx file have a specific name so I can search for that?

it is pin.alx with the pin being your devices.

search your main drive, hidden folders under advanced search.

once you find it you will want to save the whole folder.

watch the vid on it if you haven't already, that should help out.

Thanks man.. I have been watching the vid the whole way through... very well done. It's just that my version of windows is diff. I am now downloading DM 4.7 on my laptop which hopefully will be better to search on. I'm off to a different computer! I will keep you posted.

Well after all that I have my phone back, at least still in working order :) However, it didn't change the delay for the memory screen or the camera. And I didn't mention before but the camera delay also includes a LOOONG delay between pics. Like prob over 30 seconds to take a new picture. I have no ideas left. I started deleting apps and themes to try to decrease my workload but my app/device memory is up around 25 mb which is ok for me, but it has made no difference to my above mentioned problems.

Thanks again everyone for your help...the steps worked without problem once I switched to my Vista computer.

gamehunter that is unacceptable IMO I agree with you. Maybe E or BBC can chime in on this since they both have bolds. I hate to see you walk away from this thread with your issue resolved. I am going to PM them both with this thread and hopefully they will be able to suggest something.

Thanks everyone...it's nice not getting kicked to the curb as I sometimes find with other forums...it's obvious you guys care!! *sniff*

Well I checked the video cam..it comes on instantly. I haven't noticed any other significant lag. Also, I should mention that during those lags I DON'T get the hourglass/timeclock spinning.
The media card is a GREAT question... as I updated to an 8 gb from a 2 gb, perhaps even about the time this started happening. I have a few movies on the card so I am going to delete them and see if there is a change. I don't see why it would but hey, I can do my part to try to help too.
