Lightbulb How to: Install JAD/JAR files to your Blackberry using a Computer

You just found that theme or game you were looking for all this time, but is in a JAD/JAR format and you dont have a data plan in your Blackberry?
Well this guide will show you how to install those files using a computer, lets get started:

    What you need:
    • A computer with internet acces
    • the web page where the JAR/JAD file is located
    • OTADonwloader Software
    • USB cable to conect your Blackberry to the Computer

    Here we go:

    JAD FILE INSTALLATION:

    1. Download, unzip, install and open OTADownloader, leave it open
    2. Open your browser and locate the page where the OTA link is located
    3. Right click on the link and select "copy shortcut/link"
    4. Go to the OTADownloader and paste
    5. Click Download in the OTADownloader
    6. Once the download is complete seach for the folder with the name of the file you just downloaded
    7. Right click and selec copy
    8. Conect your device to the Computer and enable mass storage mode
    9. Go to my computer and open your device memory or media card memory disk (usually labeled wiht "Removable") and paste
    10. Disconect the phone from the Computer
    11. In your phone go to media > explore
    12. Locate the folder just copied and open it
    13. Here you will find a certaing number of xxx.cod files and one xxx.jad
    14. Click on the xxx.jad file and select install

    JAR FILE INSTALLATION:

    1. Donwload the jar file to the Computer (for an easy location save it to your desktop)
    2. Locate the downladed JAR file and right click and select copy
    3. Conect your phone to the Computer using the USB cable and enable mass storage mode
    4. Go to my computer and open your device memory or media card memory disk (usually labeled "removable") and paste
    5. Disconect the phone from the computer
    6. In your phone go to media > explore
    7. locate the xxx.jar file
    8. Click on the xxx.jar file and select install

Sometimes when donwloading JAD files with the OTADownloader you still will get errors when trying to install the xxx.jad file on your phone.
If this happens try again, if you cant succes with the procces, you cant contact the theme developer and ask him/her for a zip folder containing the files needed to install using Desktop Manager

    Welcome to BBOS!

I believe you will have to find the original OTA file if its no longer in the App Launcher.

Thank you for the reply. I am really enjoying this forum.Good info for my Bold.
PS: I do have the JAD files on my computer eg. Filepro.jad,memoryeye.JAD. Then, these are not the OTA files?

Just email the jad files to yourself and then from you phone click on the link and it will automatically install.

Hi, it seems that the link i was given to the .jad file isn't a direct link, so the program doesn't like it. is there any way around this?

You mean the OTADownlaoder program? That thing works like crap. I always end up doing it manually. Saving the JAD file, then opening it in a text editor to get the COD file names, then downloading the COD files.

The problem for me is that the jad file is in the same directory, so there is no url, just lists the files that it needs, and then the link that i have for it is a redirected link.
