On October 11 RIM released Facebook 1.9.0.20 to the public. One of the new features was Facebook Places. It is quite similar to other social apps such as Foursquare and LinkedIn. One of the biggest issues for users was how to get the darn thing to work! In Facebook "Options" the "Share my Location with Facebook" is grayed out and uncheckable! Well, BlackBerry Help recently posted a great tutorial to help many of us clueless Facebook addicts to get...clued in.
The first thing you need to check is if you have GPS location enabled. You can find it here on OS 5: Options/ Advanced Options/ GPS/ Set Location to ON.
On OS 6 from the homescreen: Select the Search icon/ Type Location Services/ Options/ Location Settings/ Set to Location On
After you are finished with that go ahead and open the Facebook app and hit the "Places" icon, click the "Check in" button. After that you should see some places or an "Add a Place" button. Go ahead and add a place and then it will take you to a disclaimer which, of course, you would click "I Accept" if you want to use that feature. From then on you will now be able to check or uncheck the "Share my Location with Facebook" box.
And there you go! no more frustrating uncheckable boxes and your ready to use the "Places" feature in Facebook!
