Default How To: Perform a Blackberry System Test

Woohoo for RIM having secret stuff in our OS and not telling us!!! Well I am spilling the beans. RIM has a secret little menu hiding inside your BlackBerry, as long as its running OS 4.2 or higher.

This little secret is a self diagnostic tool, which will help you figure out if something is wrong with your device.

To access this menu simply go options > status > then type the word test.

Once the application opens, click open your BB menu and click start.

Then simply check off the hardware you want to test.

This will be a handy tool if you need to check someones trackball/pad or other pieces of hardware.

It was testing everything in turn except the last one, SD Card InsertRemove Test (which I didnt want to test) and it got to Keypad backlight Test and failed to do anything except go black.
the only way to get it running again was a battery pull.

But the report says it passed lol

I am viewing the report now and its comprehensive to say the least.
I might try again without that test included.

Madasafish, you're running a hybrid, that might be why it freaked out. the operating system may include parts from another device which controlled the backlight. It may have tried to call up something that doesn't exist and got stuck. It might have claimed you passed because there were no error messages to the system from the item that didn't exist in the first place.
This may be one of those utilities that can be used for most of the device, but not some parts when using a hybrid. battery pull was a good call
Have you ever wondered why things intended to make our lives simpler keep getting more complicated to use?

Its amazing really but the errors seem to be user error mostly coming from NRTFQ (Not Reading The F$%@ing Question!!!)
