How to: Creating ALX files
Many of you are surely familiar with the problem of wanting to save an app to your PC, but only an OTA download is provided. Well, the solution with this little helper, OTA LOADER, was already well described here:
How to: Install JAD/JAR files to your Blackberry using a Computer
Just copy the OTA internet address into the program and ota loader is going to do the rest for you.
But what if you want to install an app you've just downloaded with the Blackberry device manager (DM)? How to generate the required *.alx file? While Blackberry Swiss Army Knife (BBSAK) is able to generate JAD files, the Blackberry Master Control Program (BB MCP) can provide you with ALX files for DM installation as well.
In the menue "Save Modules" just press the ALX/JAD Builder button, the new window gives you the option to drag and drop COD files. Press the "build" button and the required alx/jad files are generated immediately. From now on, this app can be installed directly via the DM selecting the ALX file.
Similar options are available from within BB MCP for your apps already being installed on your berry. Tired of downloading an app again via the berry? Well, then simply make a single app backup before you delete it. Again, go to the menue "Save Modules" and access what's on your device by activating "List Management/Retrieve". Select the files for backup, and BB MCP generates the required ALX/JAD/CODs for offline PC storage (and re-installation with DM if required).
BB MCP is capable of much more, many options are protected for your own safety and can only be activated by entering BrickBerry in the "MCP and Java Loader Options". Explore it by yourself and share your experience with us here.
