I have 2 computers, my main & a old "guest" PC [both xp]. My main has the "disconnected" problem. The guest doesn't & that's where I do the BB stuff. I tried your solutions & had my hopes up.. but no, same "disconnected" status. Operation is for USB and it has the BB device manager. When I go to Properties it indicates connection Com 3 disabled... but nothing for USB. So I think that's maybe where the "disconnect" is?
Also there isn't anything in the BB file[s] not in the top level or the remaining CertSync... or is this then "filled" when there is a sync?

As a follow-up. I shut down and re-booted. On the DM it indicates 'disconnected" & PIN "none" I clicked on it and it indicated USB and my PIN BUT!!!! even when I click on it and OK. it still shows "none". On the Device manager properties [bb icon in the task bar], it also shows usb connected with my PIN BUT still disconnected in the DM.
    Frustrating!!

Hey, well let me read on your issue alittle more and i will resolve it ... i know how you feel. Me and BBCM worked on this case and never could resolve it. There is something wrong with the USB connector. Are you running a hub? where is your phone plugged? back front?

Connector is in the front [I also tried one in the back & to a hub.. all work for various devices]. Cable works & the computer recognizes when it's attached/removed [connection sound]. What's weird now is that it indicates the connection & PIN [which never happened before]. I disconnected & reconnected & now it only indicates Com 3 no USB with PIN

PC [both guest & main are PC running XP].
I switch to a rear USB port & got the "none" / Com 3. I closed the DM & re-opened & again got the USB & PIN in both the DM [hitting on the "none"] and the BB task bar Icon properties. But it still remains "none" in the DM Device connected field. BTW just FYI when I plug in the Storm I would also get the windows box asking what to open the Storm with. As there weren't anything applicable I would hit "do nothing"... & it sure does! I don't think that's "it"... but I've been wrong zillions of times.
Another USB fact. I use the front port to review/add/delete BB storage stuff via Win explorer. So I know the port works fine.

Unhappy DM stopped working in Vista

Been using DM 4.7 for a while on Vista with no probs. All of the suddden it's crashing.
It loads fine with the device not connected, but when I connect my Storm and it tries to read it, DM crashes.
If I have the device plugged into USB and then start up DM, DM crashes before it loads completely (as it's trying to read my device).
I tried deleting the Intellisync folder wit no success.
Anyone else experience this? Even tried uninstalling and re-installing DM

olimazi, Have you tried using DM 4.5. Some people have better luck with it.

That is wierd. Just a shot in the dark, but since all the 5.0 files, try DM 5.0. If not, since you noticed it after 5.0 hybrid, try wiping your phone, then reinstalling OS.

    Exclamation Dm r.i.p.

Tried DM 5 the other day with the same result: loads fine till I plug the BB in and it tries to read it, then crashes.
Time to scour the net for possible conflicts...

I plugged my wife's Pearl into a USB port, fired up DM 5 and viola, it sync just fine, recognized - the whole bit.
It's when I plug in my Storm that DM crashes.
So I'm thinking wipe the device w/ JL and re-install the OS... but I want to do a 3rd pary backup, which I cannot do because DM won't work with my Storm anymore - any suggestions?

Try deleting DM and installing an older version and see if that works

    DM

    I tried DM 4.6, 4.7, 5.0... same problem.
I'm thinking it's the device. So I want to wipe it, but there's no way for me to backup my data/apps without DM working

Do you have any recent back ups currently on your computer?

Install an Official 75 OS to the device, keep us posted on the results.

    .
I fixed it. My suspicion was my computer OS. Way back when I got the computer, it came with a coupon for Vista when it was released. When I "tried" to install over XP [instead of a format & install] it crashed. I was able to restore to XP. But over time various things indicated there were corrupted files. So not being able to use the BB Dt I decided to re-install XP via the emachines Restore disc. It took a couple of days to get everything working [I had my files on an external HD] but finally got to the point of downloading DT v 5.0 & it works [as well as the computer overall]. I don't know the specific correlation/cause between the BB problem and other problems & it isn't an "easy" solution, but in my case it worked. While writing this response I remembered that not too many years ago it was "normal" to re-format every couple of months or so to "clean it up"!
    Thanks for your efforts.
