    I just removed my sim card to try it out as well. I'm curious to see if I will have a better connection in my neighborhood.

    Nice, I never knew this.... I would think this only drains on your battery more if you have no CDMA signal and its not set to 1XEV only in mobile connection....PRL updating is well known to most I believe.

    Not to be a nay sayer but there is no GSM in the US for VZW. Their technology is based on CDMA. The only time the SIM card comes into play is when you are overseas. So removing the card, changing the settings on your mobile network is superfluous while in the US with respect to battery life.
