Thread: wifi hotspot activation on os 7.1

So I upgraded to os 7.1 during the week and thought I'd phone vodafone uk because I had read that you needed to phone them to activate the mobile hotspot option so I did and spoke to a representative... Turns out he had no idea what I was on about and said I must have a faulty handset. Anyone else phoned them and got it activated? Or is it not available for uk or vodafone?

If im not mistaken I don't believe Vodafone UK has officially released a 7.1 OS for the 9900. I may be wrong on that but that's most likely why the tech had no idea. You can try using the following APN settings and see if it works:

APN: internet
User name APN: web
Password APN: web

Make sure you know what your data plan is as this could have an affect on your monthly data and in turn increase your bill.

Thank you no they haven't released it yet but read on a site you had to ring, ill try the apn settings I'm on payas you go tarrif so dunno if that affects it?

Same problem here. Activation required for my mobile hotspot. My carrier is Globe PH.

Hi iansantos and Welcome to

I'm using BB Bold 9900 and I was able to use my Mobile Hotspot. We have the same provider by the way so I'm pretty sure it will work on your device too.. You may want to check the settings first..

APN Settings Enabled: check this
APN: http.globe.com.ph
APN Authentication Enabled: check this
User name APN: leave it blank
Password APN: leave it blank


Try to click the Mobile Hotspot again and if you are being asked for Username and Password, put globe to both of them and then OK.

In doing this, you have to make sure that you are susbcribed on BBMAX to avoid extra charges otherwise, your credit will be eaten up as soon as you use it. Let me know if this will work on your device as its working perfectly fine with me

Sad to say. Still not working. I'm currently subscribed to BBMax. What's wrong with my BB eh?! LOL

Try to hard reset your device.. Pull the battery out for like 2 minutes and then place it back..

Not a problem.. Let me know what'll happen ok.. That's all I did to make it work.. Yeah I called Globe about it and that's all we have to do to activate the mobile hotspot..

I checked out Globe's BlackBerry MAX plans for BlackBerry devices, in iansantos case, he should not be having any issues with mobile hotspot (tethering).

As ToraxCefiro has mentioned above, either soft reboot your BlackBerry device (Alt+Shift+del) or pull the battery out for a few seconds.

Do you all agree my problem is my handset? What do you think?

I don't see any reason why would your device be the issue. If you were able to upgrade your OS to 7.1 properly then the device is not the problem. Have you tried the things I have mentioned above? Let me know so I can double check. I am 100% sure that that's how you'll have to do to activate it.. Worse case, we have to call Globe for further assistance..

If upgrading the device is not properly installed in my handset then it will not work properly. I already try your post many times but still not working.

Then I suggest you call Globe about it as mine worked after doing what I just mentioned above

Ok. Thanks to your help.

Try to reinstall the OS to a more stable version, maybe you have some issue with the OS version installed on your Blackberry.

Works for me. here's the screenshot. I upgraded my 9380 into OS 7.1.0.336 from other carrier since on Telkomsel there's no available update, I just delete the vendor.xml file. And everything is fine till now. I checked and it costs more on the data connection. Perhaps I have to apply for the other data plan that covered all the data connection.

(Sorry, forget to capture when the other devices connect to the Mobile Hotspot)
