Thread: Unlocked Blackberry 8900

Good day Guys,
I have an unlocked blackberry curve 8900. There is no mark on the blackberry so that i know company this blackberry is from. Currently i am using 4.6.1.199 on it. Is there a possibility that i can find out its original carrier that will help me to download and install future update from that carrier.

As far as I know the only carrier in the US is T-Mobile, once a phone is unlocked it removes the splash screen branding and if there are no markings I don't know it there is a way. Possibly look at the sticker under the battery. It may list the original carrier. Any specific reason you want updates directly from the carrier?

Hold the left alt key and type eace will show a help screen on the first line what number it has on the vendor ID line, is the first one.

the blackberry i bought is from Saudi Arabia. All i wanted to know was the carrier. Can i install any software from any carrier?

Yes you can, download and install the os toy your pc and navigate to c: program files/common files/research in motion/applications loader/ and locate and delete the a file named *vendor.xml after that connect the phone to the pc in the same folder locate the loader.exe (small phone icon) file and if on xp double click on it or if Vista right click run as administrator, after follow the on screen instructions, do not disconnect the phone until the process end.

Prior to everything remove the media card from the phone.

Hi how are you, is this a known fact or it may vary? the reason why I'm asking is because I paid to get an unlock code, followed the procedure outlined by the seller and everything seems to have worked out as planned....that been said the service provider splash screen is still shows when I turn the unit on, or maybe we are talking about a different thing? now confussion invades my brain...

Welcome to BlackberryOS. Can't say that I've ever heard of unlocking a device and it removing the carrier's branding when the device boots up.

Welcome to BBOS. Unlocking the phone does not remove the splash page. I am not even aware of a method of removing the splash page without rendering the software useless.

its probably unbranded...but in any case you can download the software from any carrier website that carries it, Rogers, T-Mobile...it will work
