Thread: Whitescreen issue

Hey guys,

I am new to this website so I'm not sure if this in the correct topic and what not but here goes anyway.

My Curve 8900 has started to whitescreen recently and its been getting really frustrating as I can no longer boot it up without it being charged.

I have seen Neolantis' guide on how to install an OS as I saw that was a way to stop the whitescreening but I am not sure what OS to download.

I have backed up the phone with DM and with BBSAK and now I want to wipe the phone and install an OS.

I am just worried that I won't be able to install the OS correctly and/or I install the wrong one and won't be able to use my phone.

I'm not sure if that makes sense or if anyone understands what I mean but if anyone could help it would be much appreciated!

The latest OS we have for the 8900 is 5.0.0.1036, and you can download that here Telcel_8900_5.0.0.1036 - Downloads - BlackBerryOS.com Since you already know where the guide is and have properly backup up your phone all your need to do now is load this OS. A couple things to do first:

1. Make sure you remove any other BlackBerry OSes from your computer
2. Make sure you remove your vendor.xml file.

So I use the Telcel OS even if i'm with Vodafone correct?

Sorry but I don't want to mess my phone up!

*Edit* I'm from the UK, so will it all still work here?

Sure you can. Just remember to delete the vendor.xml file. We are here to help if you run in to any issues.

Your guide is really helpful! I am still yet to download an OS but I will tomorrow and then I will try to install it!

Just a quick question, if I leave me SIM card in whilst I wipe the phone, will I loose my contacts? Or are they backed up within the back up?

The rule of thumb has been to remove it, but I don't believe you will lose your contacts.

If you have the capability to remove it, do it to be safe.

A few more questions!

If I go wrong and want how my phone was before I wiped it, do I just restore the backup and it will be okay?

When I restore the apps, will I still have all my contacts that were on BBM?

The initial backup should take care of you BBM contacts, however to be safe you have two more options. The first option is to backup your files locally llike to an SD card on your device. To do this perform the following:

1. In the BBM, display the menu, and click Options.
2. In the Contact List section, select Back Up.
3. Select Back up files locally.
4. Change the Save backup files to field to Device or Media Card.
5. Click Back Up Now.

Noe the second method I know works with newer version of BBM, and that is to backup remotely via a registered email address. This option should be located in the same section as the local backup options. So you have a few options.

I didn't have a chance to do this as I have just installed the new OS.

But I have new problem, I am not able to restore my apps, there doesn't seem to be an option on BBSAK.

Any help would be appreciated!

Did you back them up previously with BBSAK?

Yes I did.

But now you cant restore them?

There isn't an option that says Restore apps..

Ok,what you need to do is rerun the Application loader again. When you get to the following screen:

You need to select the option to "Add" then navigate to C:\Program Files\BBSAK\Backup and you should see the backup file you made earlier. That should load all of your third party applications. There is also an option on BBSAK that will allow you to reload apps but that gets flaky at times.
