Default Why did RIM go with the trackpad on the 8520? How does it work?

Why did RIM do what they did or not do with the new 8520, that is to be released on Aug 5th? Annu over at Inside Blackberry sat down with the Product Manager for the 8520, Pankaj.

Why the new trackpad? How does it work?
We are always looking forward and investigating new technology, trying to meet the needs of our customers. The trackpad was a good fit for the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone. It emulates a similar experience to what we all love and use on our laptops today

Head over to Inside Blackberry to read the entire interview.

The specs for this are not very impressive. Considering what's already out there I would have to say pass.

What new screen it's 320x240. I would call that a step backward. 2MP camera. the only positive is that it has WiFi.

Wait for the Onyx, that would be the one Blackberry to rule them all (except for touchscreen lovers, there will always be a Storm).

Apparently the camera also has no LED flash.

    Wirelessly posted

I'm glad RIM is opening up to lower end users, but this device is worse than most of the devices from other companies have out. Also I don't know how nobody has a clue to what the trackpads "official" name is.

i have to agree with ausch slightly.. This is going to be one of their 'low' end models. To keep in track with the curve has always been old dependable and cheap...this is more of an industrial work force phone...I think they are just keeping it simple to appeal to all spectrums, but yea I pass
    Farts are funny.
Farts as a ringtone are even funnier.
Trying to pick up a chic as your phone is ringing.....Priceless

I can tell you from my opinion, still having an 8320, that if I got a new phone, I would want GPS and wifi.

it's funny actually...there is a version with Wifi and no GPS(GSM) and a version with GPS and no Wifi(CDMA)
    damn...can't make everyone happy...lol
but it's a low-end device that works pretty nicely IMO

Sure you guys could make everyone happy, just include 3G, Wifi and GPS. RIM would probably never hear another complaint, for a few minutes at least lol
