    i see. well we are running low on things to try. i know its unlikely but have you tried a diff usb cord? or a diff computer just to help eliminate some of the possibilities.

    Ok I tried this; borrowed my sis's 8520 and did the no battery connection. Started the updating process but switched it with the one i'm currently fixing while it was downloading the modules. After it downloaded the modules and began, it's stuck on connecting to boot rom, and i'm getting the error message that the application loader could not connect to my blackberry device.

    also, i've looked at the usb port on the phone and noticed some green residue in the gold strips. could that be the cause of the problem?

    That actually could definitely be responsible for the problem. You can tell that a USB port connection has received some type of liquid damage by green or white residue around the battery or the charging port.

    Sounds like it could be a hardware issue then

    ..I've had the same,
    hopefully can be used the steps I've done,

    try removing the existing OS in the control panel, and clean the device with your computer first
    with... CCleaner or other cleaning device .. after that, try installing the os and the other as before .. hopefully help..

    Hmmm. I figured as much. I used the same port and cable to flash my 9530, then i used my sister's 8520 as well. Thanks for all your help everyone, I just wanted to make sure that I tried every feasible method to fix it. Port's bad then, and I'll have to get it replaced/repaired. Thanks again for all your help.

    Sorry for the delay Keon. well at leased you tried to fix it and learned a lot about the desktop software and how to run it in diff modes. Best of luck on the repair.
