Thread: Problem with upgrading to OS 5

My friend has got a problem while trying to update her Curve 8520 from OS 4.6 to OS 5.
Every time,her laptop can not connect to ROM of her Blackberry.
So What could be the problem ?

Actually yes ! except the wiping step .. She is afraid of wiping her device.

Assure her that if she backed her contacts and apps up, there will be no problem. Just wipe the device, I'm pretty sure it's necessary.

Has She tryed to update her device by using Apploader
instead of Desktop Manager?

We've already done that .. but she is afraid of wiping her device and then her PC can't connect to ROM .. So her 8520 will be dead !

Yes,she has tried both ways.

I had that problem this week alone. What I did was to uninstall the desktop manager and reload the old version 6 then wipe the phone and use the DM to load the software but don't forget to delete the vendor file.

By the way,she doesn't have the latest version of the DM..Do you sugesst updating the DM and trying to install OS 5 after deleting the vendor file of course?

Nah. It can't be that. We used to be able to upgrade even with the older versions of DM.

Still racking my brain on what this problem could be from.

If you have several OS updating installed in your PC, try unistalling them from PC and install again OS 5.0 alone and reinstal it by AppLoader. Do you know how to do it by AppLoader?

Yes of course .. I have Curve 3G and every time I upgrade my device using the AppLoader & By the way,She had only one OS installed on her PC.

Then She has to make a Back up with DM and another one from her applications with BbSack, after that make a Wipe (It won't loose any information) and load OS. And if she doesn't want to make the Wipe, only have to go on her BB to Options-Security Options-Security erase before doing the respects Back ups; in this way her equipment will be as when she bought it.Then try to install OS well for the Desktop Manager or for AppLoader. It must work in this way, If not, try with a Center of Technical Service.
