Thread: Sound issue (no sound notification)

LOL......I could not resist. Here is the deal. Wife got a curve about a week ago. 1st thing I did was upgrade her to 4.5.0.160 and BBM 5.0. I did not do the 3 batt pulls like required on my storm.

Now here is the thing. She will go for a few days, and then the sound just won't play on a message. Email, IM, text, anything. The unit still vibrates as it is supposed to, and the LED flashes, just no sound. Do a batt pull, let it restart, and all is good. For a day or so.

Any ideas? Anyone else had this issue? Do I need to move to the hybrid?

Any third party apps or themes installed?

No themes. I do not know of any apps, but she has mentioned some Barnes and Noble book loader. I will look tonight and see if any apps have been installed. Any I need to look for that may cause this?

Not specifically. My troubleshooting process basically is just working backwards to reverse anything done to the device in hope of finding the cause. Otherwise my advice is to wipe/reload with just the original OS and nothing else to make sure it's not a problem with the device itself.

Ah, I see where you are going. Ok. What I may do is figure out when it started and then go back from there with her application loads.

She has loaded FB and a Weather app. They have been on there since the beginning. But she recently loaded a Barnes and Noble E-Reader. From what she said, if an app is causing the trouble, that is it. The timing fits.

Found out some more info. A) she has removed the Barnes and Nobles app and B ) this happens when she goes from sound to vibrate and then back to sound again. It "sticks" to vibrate and doesn't go back to sound.

Last night, checked it out and found out she loaded a pacman app and deleted it as well. So far here is the tale o-dee curve:

New with OS 4.50.77
Loaded 4.5.0.160 / BBM 5.0
Loaded FaceBook
Loaded Weather App
Loaded PacMan App
Removed PacMan App
Loaded Barnes and Noble E-Reader App
Removed Barnes and Noble E-Reader App

Somewhere around PacMan or B&N is where the sound started messing up. So I am guessing I need to backup the contacts and reload 4.5.160 / BBM 5.0. It was ok after that. Then reload FB and take it step by step.

Any other ideas what it may be?

Hi vader actually my wife has a curve to so I have some knowledge to share with you. .160 has a known bug that causes it to stop playing the sounds or any notifications, the apps probably had nothing to do with it. I have my wifes curve on lyricdals hybrid 4.5/.160/.138/5.0 for the 8330 (not the one for 8330m or 8330x) and her phone has been great since.. she has been running for close to 3 weeks now. no reboots, hell we havent even done a battery pull and that thing is still fast. hope this helps

Thanks for the heads up. When I do updates now I will shift everyone to the hybrid.

lol i would... .138 and .160 both sucked seperatly but together they are very nice
