Thread: 8320 software upgrade

hey guys i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to upgrade my software version past what my provider has said is the latest one?

main reason is i want to upgrade my bbm to 5.0 and ive seen that it does not work on the 8300 unless you have 4.5.0.131 or higher and i only have4.5.0.81

any advice would be awesome.

no i can not find it. i have gone to the blackberry site but can not find the software to download.

What do you have on yours now?

Welcome to BlackberryOS. I have 4.5.0.161 running just fine on my 8320. You can download it here. Please be sure you scroll down and download the correct version. It will say:

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.254 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.5.0.254
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.161
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.105
* File name: 8320EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel254_PL2.7.0.105_A4.5.0.16 1_Hutchison.exe

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Double check when you begin your download that the filename is correct. To install read the guideline linked below. You will need to remove the vendor.xml file.

Also may I ask what version of Desktp Manager are you using?

is there any truth to the rumor that i need to have 4.5.0.131 in order for bbm 5 to work on my 8320?

Yes. The newer the version, the more likely it is to work. I would go with at least .138.

on that site you put up it says east asian on them but im in usa is that an issue.

I have recently purchased a new Blackberry 8320. It is my first Blackberry so I am learning to get used to it. I have some niggling problems which I hope you guys can help me with.

Whenever I am dialing a number from the address book, the number is dialled but with +1 automatically. Because of this the phone prompts 'NUMBER UNOBTAINABLE'. Therefore I am left to then dial the number manually. There seems to be some settings by which the +1 is dialled automatically alongwith the number dialled from the address book.

The advertisement mentioned that the phone is a Document Editor (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). I have downloaded 'Documents on the Go' but it downloaded only Word and Powerpoint and I cannot find the Excel. Do I have to download it from somewhere?

Hello thinkofryan,

- Click on your phone button to open up the dialer. Click on the bb menu button to open up the menu list and select 'Options'. Then select 'Smart Dialing' from the list. Then see about adjusting the area code settings in there. I haven't used the 83xx device in a long time, but it should be similar to what I've pointed out.

- Check in other folders or that Excel is not hidden in a folder.

When you go to the menu and select 'Options', what other choices do you have that may allow you to adjust the area code and way the number dials on your device? Search around and see what is available.

On another note, I just opened the simulator for the 83xx device and 'Smart Dialing' is there under 'Options.'

Make sure that when you press your menu button that you are in the phone screen first (the screen when you go to dial a number).
