New 8330 for the wife

I have been updating my storm for a while, but need help with the 8330. We just bought one for my wife. I am trying to find out what she has. The about page says 8330, but she has a MEID not an ESN. Would I use the m version or the standard one? Which os do I need to install on the computer and where do I find it? Which os is the best (i was thinking of using lyricals) or is the standard os the one to use? Also, are the backup procedures the same as the storm and can I shrink her os?

4.5.0.160 official from Telus is the most recent build that I can think of for the 8330. Here is a link for your convenience. Unless you're on Telus, make sure to delete vendor.xml.

As for the procedure, it's basically the same as what you're used to on your Storm. Sorry I'm in a bit of a hurry (about to leave) but if you need more help I will be back on later or the other helpful folks can expand on this brief post. Good luck!

Sorry I missed that in your earlier post. My understanding is that MEID software is NOT interchangeable with ESN software. Therefore you will need an 8330m OS to upgrade the device. I will look around for and 'm' version and see what I can come up with.

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8330m:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Thanks. I took a chance and loaded 160 and a hybrid with the 131 radio i believe. It seems to be working. If it doesn't, I'm sure she will let me know.

Wasn't sure how comfortable you would be with the hybrids but that's definitely the way to go. The only difference between the MEID and ESN models is the radio file is my understanding. Good luck with it.
