    Weird Connectivity Issue

    Hello !

I have BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 Retail India (Factory Unlocked) phone.

I am using Vodafone network without BIS/BES plan. I have generic data plan active.

So far with APN "www" without username and password, I was able to use all applications in BlackBerry except BBM.

All apps were getting access to EDGE/GPRS via www apn or by WiFi.

Since 2 days I have having issues with connectivity.

Firstly, everthing works fine. After some time, say 3-4 hours, BlackBerry does not allow connection of any app to internet via www APN or even WiFi. Only Browser works with GPRS/EDGE or WiFi.

But not any app gets access to internet.

    It shows this error-

"Verify your network connections and try again" or "This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal stength".

But Browser does work properly. Above error is also shown even when Phone is connected to WiFi.

Now in troubleshooting, I tried Turning Off and On network, turning off and on device but this does not help.

Only thing help is "Full Reboot" by battery pull or Alt+Shift+Del.

After full reboot, everything again works fine but for say 3-4 hours. Again it shows connectivity issue.

I don't think this is network issue because native Browser opens pages when that problem occurs for apps.

Also even with WiFi connected, same thing happens.

So I guess there is some issue with the device software.

I am running OS V6 on my Curve 3G.

Could it be a hardware issue ?

I also tried re-installing OS V6, problem still remains

    Please help me out !

In my opinion , it may be a device software problem ! because when you do a battery pull , all goes right for 3-4 hours !
So my 1st question : Did you use to re-install the same build of OS !?
My 2nd question is : Which version of OS 6 do you have on your Curve 3G 9300 ?

The apps affected by issue are all apps except Native Browser.
For eg. Gmail App, Opera Mini, Google Maps, BB App World, etc.

You might want to take a look at this discussion-

Did you do a clean install? Which means to wipe the device clean before installing the OS.

Try updating your OS. I hear that 6.0.0.526 is a good build.

    Thanks for the reply.
My phone is a Retail version (Factory Unlocked) distributed by a company Redington India.

On BlackBerry Software download page, topmost OS update for Curve 3G 9300 of Redingotn India is 6.0.0.480.
    How do I get 6.0.0.526 ?
If I install OS of some other carrier, my phone will be locked to that carrier right ?

No. Just you have to delete the Vendor.xml file after the installing the OS of any other Carrier

Yes. By deleting Vendor.xml, it will install the OS.
But will it "LOCK" my phone to that carrier ?
Or sometimes it adds unnecssary stuff like Carrier theme, logo, etc.

    Suppose I downloaded and installed AT&T 6.0.0.526.
And it locks my phone to AT&T and prevents insertion of any other SIM card.
Can I wipe phone with BAASK and install my native OS ?

No it won't lock it I used that way of installing several times !
And about the unnecessary stuff you can shrink the OS.

Ok. So I shall give it a try.

Well, I know this is a foolish question.
As BB has internal Flash ROM, it has certain limit on being flashed.
For flash memories, its usually 10000 times.

So how many times we can wipe and install OSs ?

Once your BlackBerry is unlocked, it will always be unlocked, no matter what OS you download and since your're deleting the Vendor.xml file, nothing but the OS from that carrier will be downloaded. This is the best thing about unlocking your BB. You are not tied to any carrier (except for paying your monthly bill)

I have never heard of anyone wiping the OS of their device too many times.
