BB9900 Touchscreen Irregularity

Hello fellow BB Users! Just need some clarifications on my unit. If I laid it flat on the table the touchscreen won't respond, but if I tap one finger on any part of it and touch one finger on the screen, it works perfectly well. Why is this so? My ipad works well on a flat surface with only a finger touching the screen. Is this really the design of the BB or I have a problem with my unit? Tnx.

Its a connectivity issue. If your hand is touching something metal on the side of the device it will work most of the time. However if you lay the phone down on the table and are hovering over it and just tapping you may have some inconsistencies with the touch screen. It does not happen all the time. Hope this makes sense.
