No, any update for the 9900 must be used on the 9900, they are not interchangeable.

hai Joe, need advice from you about 9930, I just bought verizon 9930, is there any big difference between 9900 and 9930 I mean in global, because heard rumour that for GSM user, 9900 works much better. I used 9930 only with GSM connection. and the connection still not good, I cannot reach Edge easily. and the signal can hang easily. Thanks Joe for the advice

Hi ajresliem, i presently use the 9930 and i'll say the speed of your connection depends on your carrier. i have an unlimited dataplan and download regularly with speeds of nothing less than 210kbps, so check with your carrier

As eniga pointed out, weak connections are most likely due to the area you are in or the carrier you are with. I would first start by contacting your carrier on this issue and then move to perhaps upgrading your OS before you look at it being a hardware issue.

The Blackberry Bold 9930 is a CDMA device that also included with GSM radio and a sim slot so it can be used as a GSM device.

The things is that the speeds are fine and both of the versions are fine, you even have 2 types of the 9900 (different chip, to support the carriers frequency bands).
If you are using you Blackberry 9930 as unlocked Blackberry device with some carrier it will work just fine, European carriers are using the supported bands of this device and you can get 3G speeds, with American GSM carrier you will get 2G (EDGE) connection.
